I’m live blogging from Catalyst Conference. Catalyst is a next-generation conference that  embolden leaders from all over the world. The theme of Catalyst for 2015 is “Awaken the Wonder.” Wonder invites potential. Wonder provides vision. Wonder inspires. Wonder leads us to God.  Dr. Brené Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston College of Social Work. If we are going to be faithful leaders, if we’re going to awaken the wonder in ourselves and others, music must be part of our strategy. If we are going to lead other people to God’s way, music is a big part of it. God created music to help us wonder the creator of music God.

My son and I watched Lion King before. When my son started to hear the soundtrack of Lion King. Music can catch our attention like others that other things can’t. What is that strange, beautiful sound? It captures our hearts. Nothing can do to our hearts than what music can.

Music was a soundtrack  of my life. It ultimately led me to lead me to write my own music. What is your favorite childhood music? You probably could recite it word for word. There’s something about music that connects with us and sticks with us. Our culture is obsessed with music and it’s a good thing.

We live in a world that so disinterested in God. So we want to use every single tool at our disposal to maintain that wonder and awe and glory of God. So to ignore music is to be unfaithful to God. You cannot be faithful to God completely while ignoring music so we should use it well.

How to Use Music Well?

1. We use music to glorify God.

We are wired to praise what we love and music is a unique way to do that.

Exodus 15: “Then Moses and the people who sang this song to the Lord saying, “I’ll sing a song…”

If you are Christian and know you are a sinner, you always have a reason to praise God. The praises of sex, love, relationships, finances, career pervade the world today. We want to use music to celebrate God.

2. We use music to express pain and emotions.

“My life is turned to mourning and my pipe to rejoice of those who weep” – Job: 30: 31

He calls us to bring pain to him. So many world do not what to do with suffering. Those who do know the truth point to the pain and point to Jesus.

3. We use music to teach and to encourage.

Scripture says music as a way to encourage others. One of the commandments given to church is to sing with each other when we are together.  Ephesians 5:18 and Coloosians 3:16 points to how we should single together in fellowship.

God wants us to sing to each other remind to each of the Word. We need to choose wisely so that we can encourage them. There’s a good balance with really good content and melody together. Choose songs carefully that builds us and binds us. Use music to show the reality of life.

4. We use music for our joy.

God gave us an incredible gift to create music to find joy. When you hear a good song, it’s a reflection of God and his creativity. Use music to honor God and your own joy. Music is very powerful. It is going to inspire wonder. Are you going to use music to inspire wonder for the one and true God?
